PROGRAM ACTIVITIES
The Cops 'n Kids Program directly supports youth and their families that live in the Tarpon Springs community. The Program provides after school learning, enrichment and health opportunities for youth. The weekly programming schedule includes developmentally appropriate lessons both direct and disguised learning activities in the areas of reading, math, technology, science, and social emotional skill development to enhance positive youth development.

A primary focus of our afterschool and summer programming is academic achievement. During school year days, homework time is sacred at Cops 'n Kids giving youth the opportunity to work on assignments and school projects. Due to school board daily schedule, youth have a limited amount of time to complete homework, learn new enrichment forums and relax. Therefore, homework and personal enrichment comes first during the afternoon schedule. Staff support youth in small groups and one on one. They review student agendas and often sign-off on homework correspondence if needed.

School board certified tutors meet with Cops 'n Kids youth weekly to support more advanced academic needs. On school out days, the Program incorporates all of the components listed above and may include fieldtrips. These extended days in care provide the youth extra time to express their personal interests, exposure to a variety of activities and allows staff opportunities to give youth greater choice in program diversity and structure.

Programming lessons are facilitated by Cops 'n Kids staff that hold educational degrees and have years of experience teaching youth critical social and emotional skills. Staff are required to participate in professional development opportunities such as children's services workshops, licensing board professional development courses, and conferences. Staff utilize the Coordinated Child Care Resource Lending Library and online learning providers such as PBS programs and games, and other curriculum sources to design and facilitate academic and enrichment lessons.

Diverse and active programming allows the youth of Cops 'n Kids exposure to a variety of group enrichment projects in the areas of performing and visual arts, technology, physical fitness and wellness, leadership, Youth Council, and family involvement. Social skill development is important to students of all ages and especially middle school age youth because they teach the fundamental skills to emotionally and socially navigate their behavior successfully in everyday life. Staff with years of experience as a certified teacher and Behavior Specialist facilitates lessons that strengthen these skills-sets.

Multiple days a week youth have opportunities to participate in fun classes such as painting, sculpting, hip hop dance, stepping, photography, robotics, pottery, engineering, science experiments, community building projects through Youth Council, gardening, etc. These classes are led by professional experts in the Tampa Bay Area. Youth get excited by the opportunity to learn skills that they always wanted to learn about or never even knew they had an interest in. Youth are encouraged to spend at least 30 minutes each day engaging in outside or inside physical activity. The daily program schedule includes activities such as relay races, sports, games, dances and team challenges that promote healthy active lifestyles and team work.
